Moment 7: The first few months of our 2014 can be summed up in four words: betsy and iya buildout. Construction on the huge project that more than doubled the space we occupy in a historic building on the corner of NW Thurman & 24th began in December 2013, but it really started several months before that. In what you might call "a great problem to have," the rapid growth of our business was literally cramping our style. As we added staff, we lost precious personal space, and I don't think any of us would say it didn't get to us at one time or another. Betsy & Will knew that something had to be done, and that something was create more space.
It became a big part of my job to document the construction progress and I loved it. A big moment in the project came when the wall that previously marked the end of our portion of the building was knocked down, giving us access to what would soon become our production studio and offices. This image was a powerful moment, and we used it to promote the party we threw on May 9th to celebrate our expansion. The buildout went down to the wire before party time, but when finished, it was greater than even a team of personal space-starved people could've imagined. I got a desk in our new office space - a standing one, at that! - and my coworkers in production got custom built jewelry benches. I thought the party would be well attended, but turned out to be mass chaos (in a good way), and Betsy & Will took off for their Peru trip the very next day after the party. This moment is before all of that, and represents everything that lies ahead for betsy & iya. Stay tuned ;-). Artist: Emilee Booher xo Anna ***Song of the Moment: I. The Party by Childish Gambino***
