In the grand tradition of March going out like a lamb, we've experienced several spurts of pure springtime magic here in Portland during the first few days of April. The time of year for spontaneous park trips, opening windows for restorative fresh air, and when "let's take a walk" is a fitting solution for any problem is nigh, and while we're not home free yet, it's certainly nice to be reminded that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel (wherein 'tunnel' = November-March). The same hopeful optimism-slash-practical realism is reflected in what we have in store right now. Colorful bangles and nail polish can either serve to compliment the sunny weather or brighten up a gloomy day. Functional baskets are there to hold your dirty picnic blanket, as well as store the gloves you might still need to wear on a chilly morning. Without further ado, let's take a peek at some of our current new and restocked items in shop that'll pair perfectly with your mood(s) this month. Because cute matches and portable candles are a thing that need to be in your life. Just look at them! Skeem Design is a new line to betsy & iya and the matches, bottles, and candles made my this husband-and-wife team in Philadelphia, PA will freshen any space in your home.
These are the large size "Fireplace" matches. Hand for scale.
Another new line alert! Flume Leather Co. is based right here in Oregon (Troutdale, to be exact) and we welcome their wallets, coin purses, and keychains to the shop. Luke, founder of Flume, describes his company's place in the leather goods industry saying "Many companies are more interested in mass producing goods at the cheapest rate in order to make a profit. Flume Leather Co. however goes out of its way to get locally sourced and ethically responsible materials in order to make its hand made goods." Yeah, we dig that. Color me crazy about these bangles! Betsy & Suzy sourced these Burkina Faso bangles during their buying trip to Tucson for the betsy & iya Bazaar. Lucky for you, there are a handful (literally ^) left in the shop and they're only $9 each. Stack for maximum color therapy. Oh hello, family o' baskets. Also from the betsy & iya Bazaar, the various sizes of handwoven baskets you see here can be used to hold everything from dirty laundry to laundry quarters and everything in between. Prices range from $18-$178. Never underestimate the power of a manicure to improve your day. Think I'm over exaggerating? Try one of these bright colored polishes from Portland-based Palate Polish and you'll see. Robin Egg and Sous-Vide Carrot (above), plus several other colors are available in-store, and click here to shop online. And last, but never least, some spring studs: all betsy & iya styles seen above - Lappland studs, Piedmont studs, and Vous et Moi studs - are available in-store and online. Wishing you all a happy day and hope to see you in the shop soon - rain or shine! xo Anna
